Dr. Doowon Joo and Dr. Jessica Chau look after patients of every age, from a toddler's first checkup to implants for a grandparent. Keeping the whole family at one office means one set of records, one recall schedule and one number to call when something goes wrong.
A lot of people put off the dentist. Maybe a past visit hurt, or you're bracing for a lecture about flossing. We'd rather show you what we see. Our intraoral camera puts a picture of your tooth on the screen, and your dentist walks you through it in plain language.
You decide what happens next, and you can take your time. Nobody will push you to book treatment on the spot. If you'd like to think it over or check your coverage first, that's fine with us.
Most visits to our office are routine checkups, cleanings and fillings. We also provide Invisalign, dental implants, root canal treatment, extractions, whitening and cosmetic work, so most families rarely need to go anywhere else. When a case needs a specialist, such as a very complex root canal, your dentist refers you to one.

Two general dentists see patients at Yonge Forest Dental: Dr. Doowon Joo and Dr. Jessica Chau. The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) registers both as general practitioners, not as specialists. Our hygienists clean your teeth and check your gums, our dental assistants work alongside your dentist, and our front desk team books your visits and sorts out your insurance.
As a child, Dr. Joo was nervous enough about the dentist that he stayed away for years. One gentle visit changed that, and it shapes how he works today. Dr. Chau earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Western University. She speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese, so you can talk through your treatment in the language you're most comfortable with. She also provides Botox treatment for TMJ and jaw pain at our office. A routine checkup has two parts: a cleaning with your hygienist, then an exam with your dentist. Your hygienist removes the tartar that brushing can't reach and measures the small pockets between your teeth and gums, because deeper pockets can be an early sign of gum disease. Your dentist then checks your teeth, bite and any X-rays, and explains anything that needs attention.
Digital X-rays need a lower radiation dose than traditional film. The images appear right away on the screen beside your chair, so your dentist can show you exactly what's happening below the gum line.

A dental emergency is pain, swelling, bleeding or damage that can't wait for a regular appointment. That includes a knocked-out or broken tooth, a lost filling with sharp edges, swelling in your gum or face, and a toothache that painkillers don't settle. If you need an emergency dentist in Barrie, call our office first, describe what's happening, and we'll tell you how soon you need to come in.
Some situations need a hospital, not a dental office. Go to the nearest emergency department if swelling spreads toward your eye or down your neck, if you have a fever with facial swelling, or if you have trouble breathing or swallowing.
If an adult tooth comes out, pick it up by the crown, the part you chew with, and not the root. Keep it moist in a cup of milk and call us right away. Your best chance of saving the tooth is within the first hour.
Our office sits on Yonge Street at Madelaine Drive, in the Painswick area of south Barrie. In a straight line, that's about 3 km from Minet's Point, 4 km from Allandale and Stroud, and 8 km from Alcona in Innisfil. Most of our patients live in Barrie, and about one in five comes from Innisfil.
Parking is free in the condo lot right behind our building. Visitor parking needs a sign-in, and our front desk does it for you. Just give us your licence plate and the lot number.
Yes. We welcome new patients of every age, from babies to grandparents. If you're looking for a new dentist in Barrie, call us or request a time online, and tell us who's coming. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for your first visit.
Tell us the name of your current dentist when you book. We send your old office a records release form, and our staff collect your X-rays and charts before your first appointment. You don't need to call your previous dentist yourself. Your past records help your new dentist see how your teeth have changed over time.
You may qualify for CDCP if your adjusted family net income is under $90,000, you have no access to private dental insurance, you filed your last tax return, and you're a Canadian resident for tax purposes. You apply through Service Canada, not through our office. Wait for your acceptance before booking treatment, then bring your CDCP member details to your visit.
We direct bill most private dental insurance plans, including Canada Life, Manulife, Sun Life, GreenShield and Blue Cross. Call us to confirm yours. We also accept Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) for First Nations and Inuit patients. We don't accept ODSP or Ontario Works. You can pay any balance by credit card or debit.
Our fees follow the Ontario dental fee guide. We don't publish prices because the right treatment differs from one person to the next. Your dentist explains your options and gives you an estimate before any treatment starts. For larger treatment, you can talk to your dentist about payment arrangements that fit your situation.
Yes. We stay open until 8 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and we're open Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm. That means a checkup doesn't have to cost you time off work or school. If your plans change, give us 48 hours' notice and we'll find you a new time.
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit within six months of a baby's first tooth, or by age one. Early visits are short. We check for early signs of decay and show you how to brush a toddler who won't sit still. Kids can watch a show on our ceiling TVs, and brave patients leave with a small treat.
Yes. The office is on one level and is wheelchair accessible. If you'd like help getting from the parking lot to the chair, mention it when you book, and our front desk will plan for it.
